Along with a few of our LASBM colleagues, I have just returned from a hectic two days at the NASBM National Conference at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Birmingham.
The event was extremely well-organised and managed (but as a NASBM trustee, I may be accused of blowing our collective trumpet!), and there was a real buzz about the place. We had the privilege of listening to some great speakers including Dr John Wm Stephens, Deputy Director for Teaching Schools at NCTL, ASCL’s finance specialist Sam Ellis and EFA Chief Finance Director Simon Parkes. The conference finished with a motivational presentation from SUMO Guy Paul McGee, who not only inspired but had the audience in stitches.
Besides keynotes speakers, delegates were able to choose three of twelve workshops on offer, with updates on a variety of topics including Finance, HR, Marketing and Facilities.
It wasn’t all work, though – the gala dinner provided an opportunity to socialise and network with colleagues from around the country and also with sponsors, many of whom are known to LASBM. Kevan Walsh from Zenergi provided entertainment for delegates arriving on the eve of the conference, with a magician, wine and nibbles, which were very well received.
All in all, it was a great event and very worthwhile. I would encourage you to attend next year if you possibly can.
